I’m starting a new video series of short tutorials on YouTube, that will be perfect for absolute beginners who need a quick guide to playing a Native American style flutes. In this very first video, I explain how to produce a sound on a NAF.
To play a note (a sound) on Native American style flute, put the flute to your lips and form a gentle, yet tight seal. Use your middle fingers (the second, third and fourth) of both hands to cover the finger holes in the flute. Use your little fingers and your thumbs to hold the flute’s body.
Then, gently blow the air into the mouthpiece. Start slowly and increase the air pressure, until you reach a steady sound. If you push too far, you may overblow the flute, that is, produce a high pitched unpleasant sound.
